    Assessment FAQ

After attending an Orientation, an Assessment is the first step toward recovery and is designed to diagnose those with a substance abuse or mental health problem and refer them to the help they need. Our knowledgeable and caring therapists have been trained to guide clients and their families to the most beneficial treatment and/or education plan.

During an Assessment, which can last from two to three hours, our therapists will employ the following tools:

Interview – The therapist seeks to understand what the client’s goals and needs are, determines the extent of substance dependence or abuse and makes recommendations for treatment.
Standardized tests – These may also be used to assess the client’s situation
Drug Screening – Urine samples are sent to an independent laboratory to help determine current drug usage.
Referrals – Based upon the specific needs of the client, referrals will be made to appropriate providers.
Reports – When requested, our staff will provide written reports of their findings to those parties for whom we have obtained a release of information from the client.
Consultation – We consult with other professionals, employers, school personnel, clergy, courts, and law enforcement in offering advice and direction regarding specific cases.
